70's P-bass w/Jazz big-blocks neck and DiMarzio pickup

Postby Gil Escalera » Sun Jun 17, 2012 8:46 pm

Hello All,

A friend and neighbor of ours approached my friend (a musician) about a bass she had that belonged to her late husband that she was interested in selling. I believe he passed away 7 years ago, and she is now in a place where she can let it go, but only to a good home. My friend referred her to me.

The bass is a full on 70’s machine – Charvel P-bass body w/DiMarzio P-bass pickup (creme), brass pickguard, brass bridge and original Dunlop strap locks. The neck is a 70’s Fender Jazz maple neck with black blocks. The bass is on the heavy side (about 10 lbs. on my not so accurate bathroom scale) but sounds GREAT! Total 70's P-bass sound. The bass is a definite player and has the wear to prove it (buckle rash, brass tarnish, etc.). Her husband backed up the Beach Boys (there’s a set list from a Beach Boys show in the gig bag) and played at church in addition to other gigs. One of her husband’s friends (musician) had it appraised at Norman's Rare Guitars in Tarzana, CA. She's asking $800.

She is most interested in getting this instrument into the hands of someone who can appreciate it and USE it as her husband did for more than 30 years.

There’s no money in this for me, I'm doing nothing more than helping a neighbor. Let me know if you are interested or have any questions. Thanks!

Can't buy any basses right now, but that thing is the kind of frankenstein beauty I usually can't resist!

i bought a 70's schecter P-bass with a 72 Fender Telecaster Bass neck. The hardware and body contours look the same as this bass (except mine is 2tsb with anodized guard). I love it. I imagine that neck is worth close to the asking price. I'd hit that!

Links: Yanno, you live a very short time and then you spend a very long time dead so eat great food, love extra hard, hold on for the ride, and play some bass along the way.

Gil - If the neck is good (no flip, good frets etc) - I'd take it for 800 and I'd send a call tag for shipping. Kevin

Not sold yet. I'm talking with the owner and working on meeting up with Tris to check it out. If that doesn't float than Kevin has next dibs.

Met up with Tris yesterday on his way to his gig. We met in a shopping center parking lot just off the freeway. Very cool time of meeting up and talking!

Thanks all for looking and commenting. Thanks again Tris and Enjoy! [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]
