Had it shipped to the wife's work,
so I won't see it till I get home from the gig tonight.

Which means I'll be up late assembling and playing...

Wow! That's astounding. Didn't I just send it out this Monday? They must've taken it from CT and plopped it right on an airplane.

That's what I was thinking too!
This must besome kind of a record in shipping from the mainland to Hilo!!!

Here's what my wife texted me about 8:30 this morning-
Were u expecting this canopy in the mail?

Sent from my iPhone

Does this mean anything to you Father Gino?

I am thinking it must be a recycled box, myself.
So I had some fun with it:

Don't open it, it's your Christmas present!
Only 6 more months till Christmas, you know...

rrright

No, it's a bass.

r u serious?

Then, knowing you removed the neck to ship it-
Is it shaped like a bass?

No bass shape, rather rectangular...

So I asked her for the return address
and when she confirmed it-
Oh good, it's the drugs from Connecticut

So what's the scoop? Are all the pieces there? Did it survive its arduous but quick journey?

I'm in the middle of my "work weekend" right now,
so we've only have a few hours together
but I wanted to at least post some first impressions:

-It arrived safely and went together easy.
Yes, all the parts are here.

- Beautiful, classy looking top and thick urethane finish.

- Incredibly straight neck and low, low action.
Calls for a light touch especially with these lighter strings
(Do you know if they are DR Black Beauties?)

- The 24 fret neck is a bit more to the left than most Fenders,
(real similar to the Steinberger's whole step shift)
so it feels very familiar, which makes "no look" playing easy.

- Feels light weight, with just a slight neck dive
(Who changed the tuners? ...and why?)

-Will have time to actually plug it in on Monday
(my Saturday)
and check out the tones, etc.
If it sounds as good as it plays/looks,
this one might get to see see some gig time!

I haven't had time to look into the transposer yet
but Nick sure is interested in it.

Thanks for the new toys!!!

Glad it made it OK. Yeah I think those are Black Beauties on it. They were on it when I got it. I liked them so I put some on my 44-02. I never thought of them as being particularly light but I'd been using TIs for years. Only thing I don't like about them is that it's hard to slide your fingers on them. OTOH, they're nice in the heat of summer because it's hard to slide your fingers on them even if you're kinda sweaty. That bass was my first foray back to frets in a long time. It was a hard transition and I never got real comfortable with it. Didn't like the stacked controls either. Maybe I just never gave it enough time to get used to it. Like I said, it's really not a bad bass but I got the Lakland and found it much more to my liking.

I've no clue about the tuners. I bought it second had for not a lot of $$ though more than you just spent on it. What makes you think they're not original? I never really looked at them too closely.

I threw the recorder in there cause it was sitting there unloved on the shelf when I was packing the bass up. I don't think it does anything too much different than the little tiny ones they make now and as I recall it's more involved to get something into it. I figured it's kind of obsolete in today's market but if your son can use it then that's great. Come to think of it, I'm kind of obsolete in today's market too so I shouldn't think too badly of it.

Finally found some time today.

Strung it up with a cheap set of GHS
(cause the music stores here suck)
and got to plug it in and give it a test run.

"Oh my damn!"
jawdropper

I've never cared much for the overused term, "Jazz on steroids"
but this IS a Jazz and man, with these pickups/electronics, it f@#%in' barks.

It's definitely going to the gig with me on Thursday.

Here's the stock tuners-

Might get around to switching them back to Hipshot HB6Cs later
($75 on Amazon/MF).
Low on my list right now though.

Bottom line?
Sweet deal.
This thing looks beautiful, plays easy and sounds monsterous!
Thanks Father Gino!!!
