This TELEBASS was NUTS!

Older is better here. If Kebo has to explain, you wouldn't understand.

This TELEBASS was NUTS!

Postby Kevin Probass Borden » Tue Nov 11, 2008 6:40 am

I took a chance, I bought a 68 Telebass that was a disaster but all there. The bass was in closet storage since 1971, never saw the light of day. The owner opened the case and OMG! The guard disintergrated, it rotted the stings all the way thru, rotted the pickup to the bobbin, the neck cover had no chrome and turned green the metal was etched! the control plate was toast, the pots were seized, the vol knob was distorted. The bottom 5 frets need replacing and the finish on the neck from 14 to 20 was gone! The truss rod screw was welded on and took days to get it loose. Get this, the paint on the body is PERFECT! It took me almost 20 hours of delicate cleaning to get it right. And yes, its a keeper. I'll have pics soon! OH., it destroyed the inside of the case too!

Yeah, it's amazing how caustic those pickguards were when kept enclosed like that, eh. I've only seen pics of a couple early TeleBasses that did that, what a mess! But great find! [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]
