Jazz Bass Pups Location?

Older is better here. If Kebo has to explain, you wouldn't understand.

Jazz Bass Pups Location?

Postby hmagman » Sun Feb 22, 2009 2:54 pm

For the experts...

Trying to confirm the distance between jazz pickups on 74-75 basses. To my knowledge the 74-75 jazzes center-to-center dimension is approx. 4-inches. The center-to-center dimension on the Fender '60's jazzes is approx. 3-1/2" to 3-9/16" or so...

Questions:
1. Is the difference of location of pups between the mid-70's jazzes and the 60's jazzes that approx. 1/2" difference?
2. Is the mid-70's jazz bridge pickup located 1/2" closer to the bridge?
3. Is the mid-70's jazz neck pickup located in the same location/position as the 60's jazz pickup?

Inquiring minds... [smilie=coz.gif]

Thanks!

The neck pickup is in the exact same location.
Once the tail pickup was moved it was in the same location. Theres only 2 locs, the original spot and the moved to spot.

I'll get a bass infront of me and get the exact distances...

BTW - QUIZ time..

Q)Why did Fender move the tail pickup closer to the bridge?
A) For cosmetic reasons only, so it would be hidden by the cover!

Told to me by Roger Sadowsky..

Answers:
1. 60's- 3.6" from center of neck pup to center of bridge pup/ very early 70's when change took effect, 4.0" from center of neck pup to center of bridge pup (my 71 is 4.0")
2. no approx .4"
3. neck pup remains in the same position
