68 Tele bass

Older is better here. If Kebo has to explain, you wouldn't understand.

68 Tele bass

Postby ampig » Thu Oct 13, 2011 3:57 am

Stumbled across one in a shop last night for $1350. This thing is light as a feather and plays like btuter and the neck is nice and straight. Some fretwear but seems to have worn flats all or most of its life. It's pretty relic'd though. Obviously been rode hard and the headstock was broken and has been repaired. The repair is solid but not pretty. All hardware appears to be factory stock. No case. The shop owner, who I know pretty well, tells me this was a Nashville studio bass for years. Any idea what it's worth?

Yes...the head stock is not uncommon at all....doesn't scare me on a P. I like the price if it plays and sounds good. Might even take that one off your hands if I have the $$$ when/if you sell. [smilie=cool-smiley-031.gif]

The thing is it's really light. Feels like 8lbs (in the store anyway). Now to come up with the dough...............

What's your take Kebo?

Kebo has an 11lb '68 in stock that he says "maybe the best Telebass we’ve had in", priced at $4695, and a '72 for $2695.

On that basis, $1350 for an 8lb '68 player is a good price.

I think that is one sweet looking Tele bass. I've had a couple '68s over the years. One good, one so-so. I don't mind repair if they are done well. Cosmetics don't mean a whole lot to me and if the fact that it has been repaired means that I can pay what they really should be going for (IMO) than I say bring it on.

I'd buy it.

If I buy this it'll be a player for me, but also hope it will be an uinvestment. Am I off the track on this considering the headstock repair?

If this player becomes you number one, that is an investment. You can probably add some value having a pro "clean" the repair. The player wear alone tells me it's worth the asking price.

I'm not sure, but the '68 might have been mine for a while...if so, it definitely was a good one. The $1350 tele that you're looking at, Howard, is a no-brainer....grab it.
