58P weirdness

Older is better here. If Kebo has to explain, you wouldn't understand.

58P weirdness

Postby Kevin Probass Borden » Mon Oct 01, 2012 7:59 am

This is OH SO ODD!!! I'm at rehearsal using my 58p and my Acoustic 220/406. Keep in mind I always use my 58 and have done so for nearly 30+ years. The volume control doesnt work, the tone control doesnt work. The jack is making all sorts of bad noise. I know its not the pickup as the controls all seemed to go haywire. Now, I'm getting shocked. This sucks. I never had the guard off the bass but for the first time in 54 years the bass needs to be fixed. I remove the guard and the years of dust and funk are prevelant. Wanna know what the issue is? A single strand of wire that was encapulated in the cavity lodged itself across the 2 pots. I move it with a chopstick and wah-la! instant fix.. Go figure.. Oh the pots read 137744. Not a typo - this was from before the 2 year pot codes...

I never heard of that happening. Low maintenance, just like Leo intended. [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

I've seen lint and stuff mess up a signal but 1 strand, wow... I was chuckling (maybe out of relief)... These basses just keep on going.. Never turned the rod on this one either! Go figure..

It died on a gig? What a piece of crap. They just don't build things to last anymore... [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

Amazing. Think of the literal millions of bumps at just the right angle it took to get that little wire to move into that spot. Now THAT'S mojo!
