GoodGuys: 1962 SlabBoard LPB Mint Guard Pbass

Older is better here. If Kebo has to explain, you wouldn't understand.

GoodGuys: 1962 SlabBoard LPB Mint Guard Pbass

Postby bejahu » Tue Mar 04, 2008 6:10 pm

Hi everyone,

I had a FANTASTIC weekend. Uncle Kebo has outdone himself.

About a year ago, I asked Uncle Kebo, at GoodGuys, to find me a special bass. I wanted what would be - for me and my preferences - the ULTIMATE Pre-CBS Fender Precision. I knew what kind of financial commitment I'd have to make, so I slowly and steadily saved my shekels. I had the dough and I was ready and waiting for the phone call. Well, this past weekend, the phone call finally came.

In thirty years of playing bass, I have never been this enthusiastic about an instrument. Kevin found me an absolutely world-class masterpiece. The bass is a 1962 LBP Slab Board Fender Precision with a thick Mint Green Guard and - dig this - the original brown case. This is unequivocally one of the best sounding basses that I've ever heard. It is ultra-warm, thick-sounding and super-punchy with a strong midrange bark and crusty highs that sound vicious with a pick. It also has hands down the best playing Pbass neck that I've ever touched. The neck is thin and flat, and has tons of mojo. It is so worn-in that it melts into your hands. Playing it is effortless. Great sound. Great neck. And Great looks. What an absolutely magnificent bass!

Kevin, this time, you have really out done yourself. Thank you one hundred times. I've attached a few photos that we took at GoodGuys. Please don't mind the Band Aid on my face: some minor surgery. I will take a few more when I get the chance. Thanks to all my BABP bros for indulging me with this message. I am unbelievably happy and want to share that happiness with my friends.

If any of you are looking for a truly special vintage bass, a keeper for life, then definitely give Kevin Borden, at GoodGuys, a call. I've bought some great basses from Kevin over the past few years, but this one is really something special.

All my very best,

Ben (Dr. Ben)

Congrats Ben... looks pretty sweet! Nothing like a great vintage P... I love my '61 & '64... but mine are just plain old sunburst. ;-)

Awesome! Like most people, I've had to settle for boring sunburst as well :-)

Hey, there's nothing wrong with a great sunburst Pbass! Here is my '62. Courtesy of Uncle Kebo.

wow, that is a STUNNING bass! LPB is one of my all time favourite colours (note the 66 in my sig pic), and AFAIC, it's tough to beat a slab board P neck. Congrats, it's absolutely beautiful. Doesn't get much better.

I normally stay far away from the vintage porn, but I couldn't resist when I saw the header. Wow, that is a winner.

Numbah wun stunnah, mang!

I hope you are both very happy together for a long, long time.
