I took a chance on this 70's Jazz

Older is better here. If Kebo has to explain, you wouldn't understand.

No response from the seller yet. The pots are wrong as well. Haven't checked the pick-ups yet.
If I don't get a reply from him soon, I'll try the Paypal fraud route and possibly small claims court. Anybody have any luck with those avenues?

If it makes you feel any better-The neck looks to be a genuine real deal late '74-early '76 Fender Jazz Bass neck that has been drilled for 4 bolt mounting. The tuners look to be genuine 70's correct for the neck also.

However, the body definately looks to be an import of some sort of variety.

How does the bass play/sound?

Here's the problem. The seller posted pics that clearly shows non original parts. He also states he is not sure why it doesn't have a serial number. His comment, "decide for yourself", probably covers his ass enough for the Ebay (Paypal is Ebay) authority to say, too bad you hit the BIN. Might be trickier to make a fraud claim than it appears, IMO.

This is all a bummer...a lessen to all to be much more cautious and skeptical.
It will be interesting to hear what PP says. I've filed a claimed with PP. I'm never been in this situation before so who knows what's gonna happen.
If you re-read his description, I believe that he misrepresented the bass.

Pete - doing a CYA in a desc is different then an attempt to defraud which is what this is IMHO. If you paid by CC, forget Paypal, go right to your CC company. It will work..

Yeah, that's the route to take. Plus, remember that the seller can no longer leave bad feedback for you!

I purchased some absinth and it was siezed by customs. I never got any info from the seller or tracking so I took it up with visa and like magic, money was refunded after a 30 day wait.

Not my week. I normally purchase via PP with a credit card, but this time I stupidly forgot to use that option. I paid cash [smilie=smilie_kopf.gif]

In that case, go the Paypal route for resolution. These days the buyer seems to have more protections than the seller. Keep pushing through the dispute reloution--e.g. ebay's safe harbor. If you are persistent & make enough noise, you will likely prevail.

Lastly, if no satisfaction from PayPal, see if you could file theft by deception charges AND sue him in your towns small claims court.

It is sad to hear about this bad Karma. Is the bass at least a decent player?

Good news. It appears as though PP has gotten the seller to agree to give me a full refund. (Not sure how.) I shipped the bass back on Friday. I won't believe it until the money is in my acct, but it's a very good sign

That is great Ken !! Glad to hear that !
Side Note:
In looking at that bass, before I even got to reading the thread about your issue, the give away for me was the bridge pickup route. It was way too tight for any 70's Fender Jazz I've ever seen(or other year for that matter). It looks just like the extremely close tolerance routing you get on MIJ basses.
Besides...how can you trust a guy with no baseboard in his livingroom?? [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]
