Who's Your Favorite Drummer?

Postby The Get Down » Tue Apr 25, 2006 3:04 pm

Mine has got to be Harvey Mason Sr. -----Ever since I first heard the Headhunters album, I was hooked! He not only comes up with the most mind bending grooves, He has incredible swing feel, and his fills are so subtley glorious it practically makes my ears orgasm.

If you havent heard Herbie Hancock's 'Headhunters' album... GET IT NOW.....the interplay between Mason and Bassist Paul Jackson Is REDICULOUS

Mike Portnoy...

A couple of years ago my girlfriend dragged me to a Dream Theatre/Queensryke show. Mr. Portnoy was amazing, but I wouldn't want to stand too close to him on stage. He spits all over the place.

John Bonham, Keith Moon and Dave Weckl are my top three. All very different, all very influential.

My favorite rock drummer, Matt Abts of Gov't Mule...this guy is a freakin' machine and has the most finesse and dynamics of most any rocker I've ever seen. And sadly enough, largely unknown outside a small circle.
