I remember the mid 90's when Dave Matthews hit and you could start doing their hits in cover bands, all the drummers got happy!........kinda like bassplayers when Level 42 had some hits you could play in bars in the 80's.

any New Model Army fans here?

Robert Heaton (rip) was a badass drummer for sure. kept the groove and didnt fill it with technical wizardry , opting for emotion inspiring playing to carry the tune.

Soooo many...but I'll touch on some key favorites, starting with my overall favorite....

Neil Peart (good call, Pete!)...a master, and bottomless well of creativity. VERY inspiring to me as a musician.

Bozzio
Wackerman (The Bozzio/Wackerman drum duet dvds are ESSENTIAL viewing!!!!!)

Ringo ....loved the swing he added, especially to the earlier stuff.

Bonzo....great feel...best right foot ever.

ALL of the Motown drummers....groove and taste.

C Beauford
Stewart Copeland

Phil Collins...one of THE most discernible drum sounds in rock/pop music ever...and a great player.

B Bruford....amazing...a bit dry at times, but amazing!!

Alan White....okay...have you HEARD 'Soundchaser' from Yes's Relayer? Wow....

Gavin Harrison

Special shoutout to Rick Allen of Def Leppard. GREAT drummer...he was a monster before he lost his arm, and he gets HUGE kudos for coming back from that and playing at a professional level ever since. Amazing guy, amazing musician.

Don't know if Steve Jordan has been mentioned here, but I definitely dug his work with the Blues Brothers.

Mike Portnoy - amazing!

Eric Singer - solid drummer who firmly has the ear of both Gene Simmons AND Alice Cooper! Yep....

Tico Torres - the man is a monster live. He hits so HARD! Jeez..... And he's got to be, what, 80 years old? lol MUCH respect for this man.

Nicko McBrain - another monster. Plays so effortlessly too.

I am still blown away that Mike Mangini is the replacement for Mike Portnoy.

And McBrain, the guy is unreal. What he can do with one bass pedal makes a lot of double pedal players look silly. :)
