Locally there's a giant Taylor ABG that
wears a little wooden oval that clings to
the top surface of the body, and has a
little window that shows the tuning. No
tools, just a tackee back side to the
oval. Looks cool, apparently works OK.

BTW, the 'normal' clip-on tuners can be
fitted to the bridge on some basses.

New basses are red. Used basses are black.

One of those 'Buzz Feiten' gadgets? I'd stick one to the back of my bass' headstock, maybe... eh, maybe not...
