Original music I'd like to share with you

It's all about the stage, groove, recordings, events, videos, solos and chops right here.

Original music I'd like to share with you

Postby pathdoc » Wed May 09, 2012 9:09 am

Over the last several years I stopped playing out live and pretty much concentrated on recording.

I'd like to share a few tunes my brother created. He performed the acoustic guitar parts and I added everything else and created bridges for each tune.
On the first two I went with an upright and on the 3rd I used a P style bass with flats.

The last tune I want to share is my brother, my 83 year dad on mandolin and I.

Hope you enjoy. Thanks for listening.

The acoustic was recorded in true stereo using a set of Shure SM81's. Acoustic bass was recorded with same exact mics in stereo as well. Acoustic piano is virtual, Native Instruments (alicia's keys). Also I used a virtual and synth hi strings to round things out. I use Reaper on my MacBookPro. :)

Should mention drums on the third song were played by me using Native Instruments Abbey Road drums using a keyboard as a trigger. Not perfect but works okay.

Nice. Y'all should be playing live. What mic/s did you use for the acoustic and standup? ^^^^^^^^^^ha! read my mind.

The first thing that struck my ear was the quality of the acoustic sound. Nice engineering too. [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

Hey NOLA, I knew you would appreciate the clean acoustic parts. They were recorded in true stereo in my Dad's living room. The remaining tracks were all done in my home studio. The Shure SM81 is about the best bang for your buck when it comes to recording acoustic guitar. I think recording the acoustic in stereo puts the listener right in the room with the guitar. The 2 mics are placed at 90 degree angle about about 10 inches from the guitar right at where the neck meets the body.
Thanks for listening.
And yes I'm starting to play live again after about an 8 year sit out. :)

Okay one last very short portion of a tune. I was learning to use Omnisphere and laid down this simple grove. Guitar is completely virtual, actually the electric bass is the only non virtual instrument in this very very short tune. Drums are EZdrummer.

Very nice Steve. Your music reminds me of the Kruger brothers a little. Nice sound on the recording too.

My reaper skills are still in the infant stage but I hope to get some of my own personal music recorded as I get time. I have been using garage band on the iPad to get a lot of ideas down, I find it very useful.

Thanks for your kind words.

Here is the latest song I'm working on for a young Christian artist (Christian Conrad) and his band, Refuge.
This was recorded last Saturday and is a very rough mix. Drums are boring and there just to keep time till I get his liver drummer in the studio.
Whole song was recorded in about an hour and a half.

This next tune is really cool. The writer is Michael Grisby. Mike had a serious stroke about a 1 1/2 ago and is on the mend.

This is an honest and heartfelt tune. He sounds remarkably like John Fogerty. :)

Couple of older tunes.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9101291/MoveOver.mp3 This one is probably my best work. Recorded in 2006 or so. My friend Jeff Heater plays a killer electric and acoustic guitar lead on this tune.

Links: Yanno, you live a very short time and then you spend a very long time dead so eat great food, love extra hard, hold on for the ride, and play some bass along the way.
