BBE Music app for Apple products.

Postby Ken Baker » Fri Nov 25, 2011 12:10 pm

I wouldn't post this if I didn't think this was good stuff.

BBE has done an iPhone music player app that builds in a Sonic Maximizer!

http://www.bbesonicmax.com/

Imagine plain ol' earbuds that sound good. Imagine good quality earphones or cans that sound excellent. For those who've used a Sonic Maximizer, you know the difference it can make. SonicMax makes music easier to listen to and much more musical. Your ears don't have to fight distortion. You can usually lower the volume level, protecting your ears, and still hear all the music.

I bought the app and have used it with Sennheiser CX500 semi-sealed canal phones and Shure SRH840 full sized cans. The difference is remarkable. There is a convenient "toggle switch" so that the BBE Effect can be A-B'd. There are presets for earbuds, earhones, external speakers (I assume this to be a stereo hookup), docks, and three roll-yer-own settings. Airplay!

Sync your music in the usual way through iTunes and SonicMax sees it.

iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd & 4th gen. iPad compatible. Not for iPhone 3G or gen 2 and older iPod Touch.

iOS 5 recommended. iOS 4.1+ compatible, but some features disabled.

Ken's wishlist:

Allow the user to name his/her custom devices. In-app would be cool, but via Settings would also work.

A volume slider or knob on the main screen would be helpful for those of us who are so enamored to the multi-touch screen that we forget about the rocker on the side of the device.

An HD version for iPad?

Ken, do you know if it can run in the background like a preset ? I/E , I run an iRig with the GK amplifier app on the iPhone 4S. Would be nice to enhance.

Pete,

It doesn't look like it. It takes the place of the Ipod app and the settings bail if you start another audio app. At least that's the way it is on my Ipad (5.0). I wish someone would do an EQ that runs across all audio apps. It sounds great for your Itunes library though. Another caveat ... doesn't shuffle.

Ah, I figured it wouldn't. Thanks Ronnie!

It would indeed be nice, but no. The SonicMax is a free-standing player with its own settings. No EQ in the traditional sense other than bass boost and drive; just the Sonic Maximizer. The standard EQ settings, as found in the Apple Settings applet, apply only to the Apple media apps.

Me too! I'd be all over that!

Actually, there is Shuffle. Tap "Now Playing" to find it, tap to enable. You can also tap the repeat icon to make the play one-pass through your selection. Tap the speaker icon for a volume slider and speaker select (Airplay). Except that there may be a caveat: Airplay on my iPad (iOS 5.01) is borken (a technical term). Lemme know if it works for you.

Thanks Ken, I was just too dense to find the shuffle. Since I don't have anything to Airplay to, I assumed it doesn't show up on the apps. However, I've never seen an icon appear in any app so mine might not work either. I have the "old" Ipad with the latest OS. I was planning on getting Apple TV just for the Airplay function and Netflix.
