Pop quiz... your 3 fave Wal tracks and 3 fave Wal albums

Postby WalCustom » Wed Feb 11, 2009 2:12 pm

So, here's a question to get you scratching your heads and I would love to hear your thoughts on this question... So if you had to choose just three each of your favourite Wal tracks and Wal albums where would you turn? Whose playing wouild you turn to? What would your top three tracks and top three albums be?

I'm in the process of putting together short written piece and it would be an interesting little poll to sprinkle into the mix.

Here are my top three Wal-laden songs and albums which show off how great a Wal can sound in the right hands, in no particular order...

Songs:

Show Don't Tell - Rush - Geddy Lee
Shipbuilding - Elvis Costello and the Attractions - Bruce Thomas
The Mayor of Simpleton - XTC - Colin Moulding

Albums:
A Show of Hands - Rush - Geddy Lee
Live at Oxford - The Gordon Giltrap Band - John Gustafson (JG series
basses!)
Gaudi - The Alan Parsons Project - Laurence Cottle

Hmmmm... no Percy Jones... no Mick Karn... no Jonas Hellborg... looks like mine could be controversial choices! But those are my personal faves. What are yours?

So many cool songs I don't even know the names to. But I think my favorite song featuring an obvious Wal tone is Zombie by The Cranberries.

One of my favorite albums...Red Hot Chili Peppers's Blood Sugar Sex Magik with Flea using a Mk2.
Oh, and for another album...Elvis Costello's Punch the Clock album has great playing by Bruce Thomas using a Mk1 bass
